A new group representing American farmers, manufacturers and downstream producers is pushing back on the proposal from Vantage, which produces chemicals derived from beef tallow and vegetable oils.The Coalition for Affordable Ingredients argues that duties on fatty acids derived from palm and other vegetable oils would increase consumer prices on soap, food and other goods.

“One small company’s petition could quietly raise costs on billions of dollars of everyday products — soap, food, dairy nutrition — and almost no one knows it’s happening,” said John Gurley, a partner at ArentFox Schiff and counsel to the coalition, said in a release.
